Anybody who has attempted to lose weight will tell you that it is a very difficult regime to stick to. Hurdles are presented to us on an almost daily basis. So how do we learn to either jump these hurdles with the confidence of an athlete or side track them.
An uncooperative family can be a very difficult hurdle to deal with. In fact, diet failure is far more common among people with kids at home than among empty-nesters. You really need to recruit the help of your family. Ask them for their help and support and explain how important your weight loss is to you. People don't like change and they may just be afraid that they are going to have to make changes also.
Parties and family gatherings can cause enormous problems for the dieter. Festive occasions are catalysts for overeating. Careful planning in advance can really help with food selection. And if you do overindulge, remember the most important thing is to get back to your diet as soon as possible.
Depression, discouragement and despondency are also common triggers for diet failure. If you have been on your diet for a couple of weeks and you can't see the results you were hoping for it is easy to get despondent. Don't give up, you have probably got through the most difficult part. There is a saying that most people give up just before they are likely to see the success they deserve.
However hard you try to lose weight you are always going to have times when you weight plateaus for no apparent reason. It maybe that you body is adjusting to its new weight or it maybe that you need to give it a little kick start. Change your eating habits, try one or two new things and see how your body responds.
If you have included exercise in your weight loss regime (which I highly recommend) it can get very tedious if exercise isn't your thing. Give it a rest for a couple of days. Maybe just go for a long walk instead then you can return to it in a with some renewed vigour. Again, it maybe that you need to have a couple of routines and rotate them. Don't allow them to become boring.
