Is Stress Bad?

Stress

Stress differs from person to person depending on the kind of lifestyle one lives. It is the way we feel when we react to certain situations and how the body prepares to meet a situation. Things that bring on stress are called stressors. Your body will respond to these stressors by activating specific hormones. These hormones speed up your heart rate, breathing rate, blood pressure and metobolism. Blood vessels open wider to allow for more blood flow to the major muscle groups. Mucsles tense awaiting to meet a challenge. Sweat is produced to cool the body. All this allows one to react quickly and to handle the pressure.

Is all stress bad?

Some stress is not bad, for example short term stress is not always bad. A test you are studying for can help keep you on your toes without having any bad effects on the body. After short term stress the body will get it's required rest and return back to normal. . Then you get the stress that is bad for you which is long lasting stress, for example a divorce. In long term stress the nervous system continues to sense pressure and continues to send out stress hormones. This can wear a person out leaving them tired, weakening their immune system and causing other problems.

Managing stress

Managing stress is very important and we should all know how to do this to stop it from affecting our lives. Here are simple ways in which stress can be managed.

Do not overschedule. If your schedule is too busy for you, cut out those activities which are less important.

Get a good nights sleep. This keeps your mind and body fresh and helps a person to deal with negative stressors.

Take time out to relax. This can be done by doing something you enjoy such as reading a book, making time for a hobby.

Exercising daily helps people deal with stress.

Give yourself regular breaks even if for only a few minutes.

Avoid alcohol and drugs as this does not help the problem.

Avoid extreme situations that will leave you angry or nervous.

Always try to be positive rather then complaining about how bad everything is.
